In July 1997 Lu Yan came back to Beijing and immediately went back to work for
Wu Bin. She worked at the same school as before for another 2 years, before
being invited to help start a new Wushu school just outside of Beijing, in a
suburb called Chang Ping.
She
worked at this new school for 4 years before then coming back to Beijing, where
she now still lives and teaches.
Lu Yan has also spent a good deal of time teaching abroad. In June 2002 she went
to the US to teach in San Francisco, Seattle and Miami, and more recently
visited the UK as well. She has taught people from many nations, along with many
national teams including the Korean and Japanese teams.
Lu Yan is regularly invited to teach in other countries, and she especially
likes this sort of teaching. Her belief is that Wushu can greatly enhance a
person’s life, wherever they live, and whatever their circumstances. Wushu has a
rich variety of styles, each with its own aesthetic and physical
characteristics, making it accessible to all age groups and athletic abilities.
Wushu is a unique piece of Chinese cultural heritage, and she thrives on passing
each style’s individual flavour to her students. It is for these reasons that
she so enjoys her chosen career.
