In 1995 the secretary-general of the Philippines Wushu Commission invited Yan to
go the Philippines and teach their National team. She accepted the offer, and in
May of the same year Lu Yan left China for a two year placement in Manila.
The Philippines invite Chinese coaches on a regular basis to go and teach for a
year or so. With Lu Yan’s coaching, they attained their best ever results in
competition. During her 2 year stay, Lu Yan attended 4 major competitions, her
team members accruing 16 Gold medals and a total of over 35 medals in all.
The results from the competitions were as follows:
1995 World Wushu Competition, USA 2 Golds in
Men's Jian and Qiang, 1 Silver and 3 Bronzes
1995 1st South East Asian Wushu Championships, Vietnam
7 Golds including Men's Qiang, Jian, Nan Quan, and Women's Jian and Tai Chi
1996 Asian Junior Wushu Championships, Hong Kong
1 Gold in Men's Tai Chi
1996 Asian Wushu Championships, Philippines 6
Golds including Men's Jian, Qiang, Gun and Women's Qiang and Tai Chi
