After considerable success as an athlete, Lu Yan retired from professional Wushu
at the end of 1987, and embarked on a career as a coach. Her aim was to give
back to Wushu what she received from it, hoping to pass on her extensive
knowledge to the next generation of Wushu performers.
She started her career at Shichahai, her old training grounds, assisting her
former coaches. This reinforced her commitment to Wushu coaching and she soon
enrolled at University to study Physical Education.
